Dear Families,
We are excited to share that we have raised $27,369. has raised toward our $35,000 Boosterthon goal! The money raised will be used to support field trips and enrichment programs for our students throughout the school year.
Our Boosterthon Fun Run is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22nd. The schedule is listed below. If the weather cooperates, the Fun Run will take place outside on the field, and families are welcome to bring lawn chairs and cheer on our students. Please note that dogs are not permitted on school property.
9:45a.m.-10:45a.m. Grades K & 5
10:55a.m.- 11:55a.m Grades 1 & 2
1:35p.m. - 2:35 p.m. Grades 3 & 4
If it rains, the Boosterthon will be held in the gym, and families are welcome to attend by entering through Door 4. If the weather does not cooperate and we need to make any changes to the schedule, we will communicate those changes with families.

Instrument Rental Night
Thank you, Mrs. Barrette, for another successful Fifth Grade Instrumental Rental Night! Our fifth grade students are so excited and eager to begin their musical journey and start playing their new instruments. 🎷🎺🎻

A Message From Nurse Mullins
This week and next Mrs. Mullins is visiting all classrooms to discuss germs and disease spread. She reviewed good hand hygiene, how to cover your cough, and not touching our faces. It would be great if families could continue to remind your children of these practices at home! Additionally, Mrs. Dohoney read all students a book about food allergies and reviewed food safety in order to help protect our peers with food allergies.
Below is a list of when your child should stay home from school.
Reading With Your Child
Reading with your child each day is one of the most important ways you can support their learning and help them develop a love of reading. Make reading a special time to connect, take turns reading pages, and listen as your child reads aloud. When it is your turn, model fluent reading and expression; when it is your child’s turn, be patient and encourage them as they work through unfamiliar words. Ask questions, talk about the story, and celebrate their efforts. Whether you read to your child, listen to them read, or read together, every minute spent reading helps build vocabulary, comprehension, confidence, and a lifelong love of books.
Please send us pictures of your child or your and your child reading a good book and we’ll put your pictures on our in school panda television. All pictures can be emailed to tviera@smithfield-ps.org.
Trunk or Treat

Students should refrain from bringing any type of weapon, including toy or prop weapons, as part of their costumes. This includes swords, guns, knives, or other items that resemble weapons.

School Improvement Team
Our School Improvement Team is made up of dedicated staff members and parents who work together to support the continued growth and success of our school. Each year, the team develops annual goals for our school and monitors our progress toward achieving those goals throughout the year. The team meets three times a year from 8:00–8:45 a.m. to review data, discuss progress, and identify areas for continued improvement. If you are interested in joining our School Improvement Team and helping contribute to the ongoing success of our students and school community, please email Mrs. Viera at tviera@smithfield-ps.org. Below is our SIP for the 2026-2027 school year.

🐼 School Rules Review
All classrooms participated in a session with Mrs. Dohoney and Mrs. Viera to review our school rules and expectations in the cafeteria and throughout the school. We revisited what it means to Be Kind, Be Safe, and Work Hard and discussed ways students can make positive choices each day. Students were also reminded about the appropriate use of Chromebooks, the importance of wearing safe footwear for gym and recess, and how to ask an adult for help when they need support resolving conflicts at recess. Thank you for partnering with us to help our students make safe, respectful, and responsible choices!
Toys
A friendly reminder that toys should stay at home. We are seeing an increase in students bringing small sensory toys, generally called squishies, including popular types such as NeeDoh, dumplings, and butter. While these toys can be fun and relaxing, they can also become distracting and interfere with learning. Please help us by reminding your child to leave toys and personal items at home so that our classrooms remain focused and ready for learning. Thank you for your support!
