On Thursday, August 20th, we welcomed nearly 80 new kindergarteners and several new families to the Panda family. We are thrilled to have you join our PVES community!
We are also excited to welcome several new members to our incredible staff:

Miss Jennifer Stavrakas – Grade 4 Teacher
Mrs. Nicole Cocca – Kindergarten Teacher
Miss Mackenzie Dube – Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Andrea Ruotolo-Paraprofessional

We are also excited to welcome back Mrs. Kaylie Lessard, who is returning to our second-grade team after maternity leave. We are thrilled to have her back!
Additionally, Ms. Darcy Staruch has transitioned from kindergarten to second grade. We are excited to see her bring her experience to her new role!
Please join us in giving all of our new and returning staff members a warm Panda welcome! We are looking forward to a fantastic school year filled with learning, growth, kindness, and lots of Panda pride! 🐼
As we begin the new school year, please review the following important arrival and dismissal procedures. These routines help us keep all of our students safe and traffic moving smoothly.
Morning Car Riders
Car riders may be dropped off between 8:20–8:50 a.mPlease pull all the way forward in the car rider lane to help alleviate congestion on Pleasant View Avenue.
If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, please park in the Chevron lot across from the field and walk your child to Mrs. Viera or a member of our Safety Patrol.
Any student arriving after 8:50 a.m. is considered late. An adult must sign the student in at the office.
School hours are 8:50 a.m.–3:20 p.m.
Afternoon Car Riders
Please pull your vehicle as far forward as possible in the afternoon with parking at the stop sign so that the entire front circle is utilized.
Please display your car rider pass in your vehicle. This pass helps our staff identify that you are an approved and safe person to pick up your child.
If you forget your car rider pass, please have identification ready for staff to check.
If you need a car rider or parking pass, please email Mrs. Ross at pvesecretary@smithfield-ps.org.
Independent Walkers
Please send a note to your child's classroom teacher or email the office at pvesecretary@smithfield-ps.org if your child will be walking home independently.
Adult/Sibling Walker Pick-Up
Grades K–2: Please hold your walker pass at Door 9. The pass identifies you as an approved and safe person to pick up your child.
Grades 3–5: Please hold your walker pass when picking up your child. If you do not have your pass, please have identification available for our staff to verify.
If you are in need of a walker pass, please email Mrs. Ross at pvesecretary@smithfield-ps.org.
Bus Riders
Bus riders will be dismissed to the gym, where staff will escort students to their buses at Door 4.
If you are running late and miss your child's bus drop-off, your child will be returned to PVES and remain with the YMCA after-school program.
If this occurs, please go directly to Door 4 and park in the Chevron lot.
YMCA
If your child attends the YMCA before school program, drop off is at door 2 (the cafeteria).
If your child attends the YMCA after school program, pick up is at door 4.
Please be sure your child and their teacher are aware of their daily dismissal routine to help ensure a smooth and safe transition at the end of the school day.
📸 First Day of School Photos
We would love to see your child’s first-day-of-school pictures! Please email a photo of your child with their name and grade to Mrs. Viera at tviera@smithfield-ps.org before Saturday, August 29th.
Photos may be shared on our in-school television or in an upcoming school newsletter.
We can’t wait to see our Pandas on their first day! 🐼
