#Engage, Energize,& Educate

November 14th, 2025

Dear Families,

Our teachers engaged in a variety of professional development topics on Monday. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality instruction, staff have received  focused training across three key curriculum areas:

  • Math (Eureka): Teachers have been working together to deepen their understanding of the Eureka Math program, ensuring that lessons are rigorous, engaging, and build a strong foundation of conceptual understanding for all students.

  • Phonics (UFLI): Through the UFLI phonics framework, our educators are enhancing their skills in teaching early literacy and phonemic awareness—critical components for helping students become confident, fluent readers.

  • Writing (SRSD): Staff are also learning strategies from the Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) model to support students in organizing their ideas and developing their voice as writers.

We are proud of the dedication our teachers show in continually improving their practice. Their professional learning directly benefits our students each day in the classroom.

Student Chronic Absenteeism

Below are the percentages of student chronic absenteeism for the last four years at PVES.

21-22-8.3%

22-23-7.4%

23-24- 7.4%

24-25 -8.9%

If your child is absent 2 or more days a month they are considered chronically absent which equates to 10% of the school days.

1. As we approach upcoming vacation periods, I want to gently remind families that extended absences can contribute to learning loss and make it harder for students to maintain momentum.

2. Consistent attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success, and even a few missed days can impact a child’s progress in core subjects.

3. We appreciate your partnership in scheduling family travel outside of the school year whenever possible to support your child’s continued growth and learning.

Everyday Speech

This upcoming week students will watch a video that reinforces safety titled  Keep your Hands and Your Feet to Yourself. Students will be reminded of our recess rules of using two finger tag. Our game of the month (which is new) is Roshamboo boo.

Kindness Club

Our club is led by 4th grade Kindness Captains, and they meet once a month during lunch to talk about ways we can boost and showcase kindness to our school community. A Kindness Mailbox has been created, where students can give shout-outs to peers they’ve seen doing kind acts.

Kindness Captains have been helping Mrs. Dohoney spread messages of kindness on the morning announcements weekly as well.

To kick off the year, some of our 4th grade Captains visited grades K–3. They explained the PVES Kindness initiative, talked about their vision and plans, and read some wonderful picture books about kindness.

Their next project will be a school-wide partnership with a local organization, so families can keep an eye out for updates from our Kind Pandas!

Lost & Found

Now that the weather is getting cooler, our Lost & Found items are growing.  We encourage you to put your child’s name on all sweatshirts, jackets, gloves, hats, lunchboxes, and water bottles.  All leftover items will be donated on Friday, November 28th.

Community Service Project

In partnership with the SHS Honor Society, students decorated small white bags that will be collected today.  The SHS Honor Society will fill the bags with goodies  and donate them to women and men in the military.
