AN OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY FOR THE POSITION OF SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
SMITHFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT, RI

The School Committee of Smithfield, RI invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The town of Smithfield is located 11 miles northwest of Providence and covers 26.7 square miles. The Town is strategically located within a 50-minute drive of Boston and less than one hour from Rhode Island’s finest beaches. Smithfield is home to Bryant University, a top business school. Smithfield was founded in 1730 and is currently home to approximately 21,000 people. The Smithfield School District is a comprehensive PK to 12 system serving approximately 2,400 students. The district is comprised of five schools: three K-5 elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The district’s elementary schools have been newly renovated and expanded. The FY 2022 school district operating budget is $39.2 million. There are also strong community partnerships that support the district’s goals and expected outcomes.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated strong leadership skills, a focus on academic excellence, and support for every learner to achieve their full potential. This outstanding leader should have a record of building successful teams and developing strong collaborative relationships.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have strong communication skills and highly-evolved interpersonal skills, as evidenced by effective communication and collaboration with a variety of constituent groups.

An advanced graduate degree is preferred, and a master’s degree is required. A Rhode Island Superintendent license or eligibility for license is necessary. The Smithfield School Committee will offer a competitive contract with a regionally competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience, along with a generous benefits package.

The deadline for submitting applications is March 14, 2022. Preliminary interviews are planned to begin by the end of March 2022. The start date for this position is July 1, 2022.
