April 29, 2022

Dear Smithfield Staff and Families,

This 32nd edition of the Back to School report includes our weekly report on COVID cases and an update on town data.  For more information about our schools, see our May newsletter on this link:  https://bit.ly/3LegNeb

A Weekly Report on COVID Cases

Since our last report, we have had an additional 22 confirmed COVID cases. This brings our total since our school year began to 979 cases. There were 5 cases identified at SHS, 5 cases identified at Gallagher, 11 cases at Pleasant View Elementary, 0 cases at LaPerche Elementary and 1 case at Old County Road Elementary.  We know that this number, as well as the number of cases in town and in the state, may be higher, since many are using at-home tests and are not reporting cases.  Nevertheless, we find ourselves in a much better position than earlier this school year.

Town Data

The weekly number of new Smithfield COVID cases for the week ending April 9th remained steady at 45. The number of cases in the state was reduced by 10% to 2134. The town rate corresponds to a weekly rate of 205 new cases per 100,000 residents. Our community rate is considered as having a moderate level risk for COVID-19 transmission. This data is available at https://bit.ly/2PxCgDM.

Sincerely,

Judy Paolucci, Superintendent
